The world in terror and madness lies
Its ultimate doom is at hand,
How ineffectual are the cries

But Heaven's empty or God has fled
Before the Great Old Ones' might!
For lo! The dark days are hasting on
As Abdul Alhazred foretold:
When will the endlessly circling stars
Return the Great Ones of old?
From far beyond the most distant space
And nethermost caverns beyond,
The Elder Ones will reclaim the place
They held strange eons ago.
In lightless chambers beneath the waves
Where never the light of day gleamed,
A billion hastening to their graves
The great Cthulhu has dreamed.
At night he whispered to those he could,
The time of his rising was near,
And though but few of them understood,
Their hearts were crippled with fear.
In dreams he calls to us, there we're his,
The veil between worlds wears thin.
In dreams we've glimpsed what our cosmos is,
And our position therein.
The knowledge that the dark gods bestow,
The end of all things has begun,
The only mercy we'll ever know
Is sweet annihilation!
